210 billion euros! That is the amount by which France’s GDP could be reduced by 2030 as a result of intense heatwaves such as the one we have just experienced, according to a study carried out by economists at Allianz Trade*.
For behind climate inaction – and the obvious environmental and health consequences – there are also jobs, businesses and industries. “How much does climate change really cost?” This is the very question posed by Adrien Bilal, winner of the 2026 Best Young Economist Award, presented by Le Monde and the Cercle des économistes. His research, conducted jointly with Diego Känzig, has shown that, whilst certain regions may experience short-term gains, on a global scale, the losses far outweigh the benefits. This puts inaction into a clear economic perspective: doing nothing comes at a real and growing cost. Faced with this staggering reality, Adrien Bilal nevertheless demonstrates that tackling global warming is economically profitable. To achieve this, it seems to me that businesses must undergo profound change, placing the reconciliation of environmental challenges and economic imperatives at the very heart of their DNA and business model. This, in fact, is precisely the path we are following with ARMOR GROUP and our strategic commitment, IMP’ACT 2030. So yes, the mountain to climb seems high, but there is an urgent need to begin the ascent. For the sake of present and future generations.
Hubert de Boisredon, Chairman and CEO of ARMOR GROUP.
