Altkin site in morocco goes solar

June 25, 2025

Altkin’s industrial site in Morocco, known as Armor Industrie, recently took a major step towards sustainable development with the installation of 150 solar panels on two of its sites. A further 500 panels will soon complete this initiative, supporting Altkin’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and adopting environmentally friendly industrial practices.

Altkin’s solar energy project in Morocco involves more than 600 solar panels installed at three sites. A total of 24 panels have been installed and commissioned on the “Oasis” building in Casablanca, dedicated to support functions, and 126 panels have been installed on the Birj Did logistics platform. After gradual commissioning between the beginning of March and the end of April 2025, the teams estimate that these installations could halve the electricity bill for the buildings concerned. On the strength of these initial successes, the subsidiary has carried out a complete study to cover its production site, enabling it to plan the installation of 500 additional panels.

Thanks to this installation, the site will be able to produce a significant proportion of its energy from renewable sources, thus limiting its reliance on fossil fuels. The system is designed to operate in hybrid mode with the grid, without storage batteries, further limiting its environmental impact.

"This is a significant step forward for us in terms of sustainability and innovation at the site. It’s a structuring project that contributes to making our Moroccan site a benchmark plant" Gerwald Van der Gijp, CEO.

In addition to its ecological benefits, the project also has economic advantages for the business. The production of solar energy will reduce energy costs in the long term, while at the same time lessening the economic impact of fluctuations in energy costs. The project represents an overall investment of around 110 K€, but its return on investment is estimated at around 30 months, further underlining the project’s economic relevance.

This transition to solar energy is a concrete example of Altkin’s ongoing efforts to integrate ecological solutions into its day-to-day operations. "This solar project fully embodies our ambition for sustainability: it positions our site among the world-class plants in its sector, with triple certification (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001), SEDEX referencing, and a clear commitment to decarbonization" enthuses Mohamed Alfarze, recently retired Director of Altkin’s industrial site in Morocco
